A small team of scientists ventured to the top. They sensed danger, but no one anticipated the volcano's destructive potential. Lots of original film on the scene at the time. It alarmed the local people who lived on the flanks of the mountain. They share what it was like to have to make decisions affecting the lives of so many people and what they went through in trying to determine what the volcano was doing and when would it erupt. I really liked this because the story is told from the viewpoint of the US Geological Survey team and the military leaders on the American bases near to the volcano at the time and the Local people who were greatly affected by the eruption. This was especially interesting for us since my wife is from the Philippines and I have been through the area affected by the volcano. This documentary is about the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines, one of the greatest eruptions in the last 80 or 90 years. I bought this DVD because my 6 year old son has a fascination with volcanos and earthquakes and in the process I've gotten hooked on them also. This video segment adapted from NOVA describes the race to read the signs presented by Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines, just before it unleashed one of the most powerful eruptions of the 20th. ![]()
